Li-ion battery packs are very popular these days. There are so many reasons why these are widely preferred by the people today. Lithium-Ion provides the highest energy density per weight and it has the highest electrochemical potential. Lithium is the lightest among all the metals.

People prefer Li-on battery to normal nickel cadmium battery because it has the highest energy density. The electric power density of the Li-on battery is almost three times greater than that of the nickel cadmium battery. Apart from this it has a considerable load capacity. Its flat discharge curves give you the chance to use the saved power in a voltage range of your choice.

The most important quality of these battery packs is they need low maintenance. Moreover the battery does not require scheduled cycling to extend its life.  These batteries feature high cell voltage. The Li-Ion battery technology is one of the fastest growing trends due to some good reasons. These kinds of batteries have the best energy to weight ratio. They have absolutely no memory and can continuously accept the maximum charge. In addition, they have very slow rate of charge loss when the battery is disengaged.

There is a difference between Lithium and Lithium Ion batteries. A lithium battery is a disposable power source composed of lithium metal. These kinds of batteries cannot be recharged. However, Lithium Ion batteries are rechargeable.

The advantages of Lithium Ion technology-

(i) These kinds of batteries are light in weight and hold a lot of power in comparison to other rechargeable batteries.

(ii) These batteries hold their charge for a longer time and provide a steady power. While other batteries consistently loose power with the time these Li-on batteries remain strong till the end.

(iii)They store more power than nickel Cadmium batteries.

With all the advantages given above, price may be an issue as it is more expensive than the usual batteries. The chargers and the batteries are highly expensive because the manufacturing process that both undergoes, is highly complex. Moreover, these are not usually manufactured in bulks as compared nickel cadmium batteries.
